AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self hope for a big performance at Texas Motor Speedway

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self hopes for a big performance at Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Tex.: The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) will take center stage Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway for the Vankor 250 and for driver Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team, any race in the Lone Star State is huge.

Nearly 210 miles south of Fort Worth’s Texas Motor Speedway sits the city of Austin and the hometown for the 24-year-old driver.

And while the coronavirus pandemic will keep his routinely influx of activity and guests from attending this weekend’s race, Self and his team are motivated to surge into the spotlight for their first top-10 finish of the year.

“Going to Texas Motor Speedway is always huge for me,” said Self. “I’m incredibly disappointed that the ongoing pandemic is keeping a lot of our partners, family and friends from being at the track with us this weekend, but for me – I’m using that as an opportunity to go out there and showcase our team and partners on our hometown turf.”

Self will make his eighth Truck Series start at the 1.5-mile speedway and has delivered six top-20 finishes in the last seven races and hasn’t finished worse than 22nd.

Noted as one of the best intermediate race tracks for Self, he hopes the first of two trips to TMS this year yields his eighth career top-10 Truck Series finish.

“Texas has been a solid race track for us,” added Self. “For whatever reason, we’ve always been able to produce solid finishes – but we are hunting a top-10 run on Saturday night. That would be awesome for us.

“We have been making strides the last couple of races despite the bump at Pocono – but I honestly feel like we can go to Texas and Eddie (Troconis, crew chief) can keep adjusting on our No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet throughout the early stage and two that puts us in a good position to capitalize on track position during the third and final stage.”

With temperatures expected to soar into the upper 90s this weekend at Texas, Self also knows staying hydrated will be instrumental in tackling the 167-lap race.

“We have plenty of CForce (premium artesian water) this weekend to keep me hydrated,” Self mentioned. “Usually when we come for the June race, it’s hot. It will be hotter than June this weekend though. Thankfully, I’ve taken the steps to prepare my body for the heat earlier this week.

“I don’t think it will be as bad this weekend since we don’t have practice or qualifying, but it will still be warm for the race – even as the sun sets – but I think the humidity will still be a factor.

“The heat should provide some good racing though. The track will be slick and that normally puts on a good show. Can’t wait to get down there and make it happen.”

Earlier this week, AM Racing announced a new partner for the remainder of the 2020 NGROTS season, starting this weekend.

Prasek’s is the latest Texas-based company to support AM Racing and their Austin, Texas native driver Austin Wayne Self through its existing relationship with GO TEXAN.

Famous for their craft jerky, sausage and smokehouse products, Prasek’s offers so much more. They are a bakery, specialty meat market, restaurant, convenience store, gift shop and ice cream parlor.

Prasek’s has a huge line of wines, specialty foods, outdoor fire pits and grills, hunting gear, deer stands, fishing gear, Yeti products, Costa sunglasses and gear and a full line of Frio products.

“I’m glad to be at my home track of Texas, especially with the support of our new partner Prasek’s,” said Self. “Everyone at AM Racing is thrilled to welcome another new partner from the state of Texas as we continue to expand our diverse partnership lineup that are Texas-based companies.

“I hope that we’re able to give Prasek’s and all of our partners a good showing.”

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the eighth race of the year.

In 91 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.5 during his five years of competition.

The Austin, Texas native is nestled 21st in the championship standings with 16 races remaining.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self look to Kentucky for rebound

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self look to Kentucky for rebound

SPARTA, Ky: With the Holiday off-weekend behind them, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self (@AustinWSelf) are ready to get back down to business in Saturday night’s Buckle Up Your Truck 225 at Kentucky Speedway.

The Statesville, N.C.-based team is hoping that the seventh race of the season is a good opportunity to bounce back from a tough showing at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway two weeks ago when Self was collected in two separate incidents in the opening laps of the event.

Shaking off the tough luck at the “Tricky Triangle” – Self leans on Kentucky’s 1.5-mile speedway as an opportunity to get team back on track for a busy month of racing ahead.

“It was hard to have that off week because, after Pocono, I think everyone on this AM Racing team was ready to go back to the track ad bounce back immediately,” said Self.

“But the break allowed us to catch our breath, settle down and refocus for one of the races that I always look forward to.”

Self has four prior Truck Series starts at the Sparta located track and earned a track-best sixth-place finish last July.

He also has two prior ARCA Menards Series starts from 2014 – 2015, yielding two top-12 finishes.

All things considered; Kentucky is one of those races circled on the AM Racing calendar in the shop as an opportunity to build on last year’s finish.

“It was a chaotic race last July, but we earned that finish,” offered Self. “We worked hard, Eddie (Troconis, crew chief) made some great adjustments on our No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado and I think the notes that we have from last year can be even more beneficial this weekend.”

With NASCAR still limiting the series’ time at the race track, the Truck Series won’t have any practice or qualifying before hitting the track and while that pivotal track time can be essential, Self believes it could set the tone for an exciting race.

“Kentucky is really fast with sweeping corners,” he added. “You really need to get your truck handling well over the bumps and get the launch off the corners to carry the speed on the straightaways to make a pass.

“With no practice or qualifying, I think most teams will rely on their setup from last July which worked fairly good for us during the race. With qualifying being thrown out the window, I think you’re going to have some fast trucks stacked throughout the field which should make the race more exciting but will keep us drivers up on our toes too.”

Traditionally, the garage and pit road area at Kentucky is flooded with family members and close relatives who have come to cheer on Self and the AM Racing team. However, with the garage access currently restricted and no fans expected in attendance, Self knows those members who still support his team this season just virtually.

“It’s a bummer that we don’t have fans back in the stands and can have people in the garage, but I understand the reasoning,” he said. “I know I have a lot of family who will be cheering us on Saturday night from in front of their televisions or radios. Hopefully, we can have a finish like we did last year and take that momentum to Texas next week!”

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the seventh race of the year.

In 90 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.5 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self look to master Tricky Triangle

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self look to master Tricky Triangle

LONG POND, Pa.: On the heels of their season-best performance at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway two weeks ago, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self travel to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway for Saturday afternoon’s Pocono Organics 150 eager to earn their first top-10 finish of the season.

Another race weekend without practice and qualifying forced a 31st place starting-position at Homestead, but hard work by Self and crew chief Eddie Troconis kept the team moving forward and onto a solid 16th place finish at the 1.5-mile speedway.

“Homestead was a good race for us,” recalled Self. “We didn’t have a good starting position, but we were really mindful of our changes as the track transitioned and Eddie did a good job getting the truck to its best at the end of the race and gave us a finish that I’m really excited to build on.”

Moving ahead to Pocono Raceway’s 2.5-mile triangle, Self describes the track dubbed as the “Tricky Triangle” as one of the most unique tracks on the circuit, but one he enjoys competing at.

Self, 24, will make his fifth NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series start this weekend and looks to capitalize on three straight top-18 finishes.

He also has five ARCA Menards Series starts at the Long Pond, Pa. track, including three top-10 finishes – including an ARCA track best of sixth last July.

“Pocono is one of those places that keeps you on your toes, but I enjoy racing there. The frontstretch is so massive that it provides some great racing, especially if you can get a run off Turn 3.

“The tunnel turn is treacherous too, but that’s what makes hitting your marks so crucial too. While I won’t be in the ARCA car this weekend, our focus with the truck is to go out there and see if we can maybe use strategy to get some stage points and grab our first top-10 of the year.”

With just 60 laps to get business down on Saturday, Self said once the green flag drops, it’s go-time.

“60 laps will go by in a hurry,” sounded Self. “It’s one of the quickest races of the year and while strategy is also important at a place like Pocono, you have to be willing to take gambles too, especially maybe at that first stage to make sure track position is on your side for the rest of the race. I’m looking forward to getting back up there.”

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the sixth race of the year.

In 89 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.2 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self optimistic about Homestead return

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self optimistic about Homestead return

HOMESTEAD, Fla.: Looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish last weekend at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway, AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self trek to the Sunshine State hoping to deliver a strong finish in Saturday afternoon’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

Contending for a solid finish in the fourth NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race of the season, Self suffered bad luck late in the race that left the team with the determination to bounce back at a track where they enjoyed modest success to close out the 2019 Truck Series season.

“I always enjoy racing at Homestead,” said Self. “It’s a great race track that provides plenty of opportunity for racing, battles and action.

“Since the race time has been adjusted closer to night, hopefully, we can start where we left off in November and go from there.”

Self, 24, will make his fifth start at the Southern Florida race track and hopes to build on a track best of 17th at the 1.5-mile speedway in 2017. Last year, qualifying was rained out, but Self held steady throughout the event’s 134-laps to finish 19th.

This year, Self wants more, a lot more, but realizes it may be a bit more challenging compared to last fall.

“It’s been great to be back at the track and racing, but without practice and qualifying, its put the teams on notice to come to the track and leave nothing on the table from the get-go. Eddie (Troconis, crew chief) has done a good job putting us in a place to be competitive – but we strive to be better.

“It’s been exciting to jump right into race mode, but at times you wished you had a little bit of practice to put yourself in a better position for the race. For Homestead, I think we can apply some of our notes from last year and hope it lands us in a good spot until at least the competition caution.

“We want a top-10. I think we’ve shown at times we have the speed to be capable of running and finishing in the top-10. If we can do that, it puts us in a good place for our break until we go back racing at the end of the month.”

For the lone trip to Homestead this season, GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions will serve as major associate partners for Saturday afternoon’s race.

Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, and Kreuz Market will serve as associate partners in the fifth race of the year.

In 88 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.3 during his five years of competition.

Established in December 2015, AM Racing is headquartered in Statesville, N.C. Operated by Self, a native of Austin, Texas, the team is prided on faith, honesty and intelligent performance.

The team has named Austin Wayne Self as its driver for the 2020 season.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self welcomes Squeeze Marketing with front row seats at Atlanta.

HAMPTON, Ga.: With his 24th birthday just days in the rear-view mirror, AM Racing’s Austin Wayne Self heads to Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for Saturday afternoon’s VetTix | Camping World 200 hoping to celebrate a little more.

Of course, winning is tough at any professional level, but for the Statesville, N.C.-based team, a top-10 finish in the third NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race of the season would feel like a win and a perfect belated birthday present for the Austin, Texas native.

In the most recent race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, Self improved on a 26th-place qualifying effort to finish a season-high 17th, but wanting more for his family-owned team, Self is ready to get back to the consistency his AM Racing team dished out throughout the second half of the 2019 season.

“It was a good birthday,” said Self. “I spent the day at the shop hanging with my team and getting the trucks ready for Atlanta and Homestead. We left Vegas content that we were able to bounce back from the troubles at Daytona – but knowing that our team has a lot more to offer.

“We hope to prove that as the season gets into a routine. Hopefully, we can come out of Atlanta with a good finish and some momentum for the upcoming races at Homestead and Texas.”

Self will make his fourth career NGOTS start at Atlanta’s fast and bumpy 1.5-mile oval. And while a late-race accident ruined the team’s day last season at Atlanta – Self said before the crash, he was happy with the performance of his No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado.

“We were making strides towards contending for a top-10 and within a matter of seconds, our day was done,” recalled Self. “This weekend, redemption is on the line. We’ve made great headway with the performance of our intermediate program lately and I hope we’re able to showcase that on Saturday afternoon.

“Atlanta is a bumpy race track but that provides the opportunity for great racing. The trucks still draft a lot when it comes to the mile-and-a-half tracks, so it’s important for us to get that right balance with our truck, especially over the bumps and being able to capitalize on the runs that you’ll get during the race.

“Drafting will be important Saturday but so will handling. That will produce a good show for the fans and hopefully we’re a part of the mix.”

After a two-week hiatus, AM Racing returns to the track with additional support for the 134-lap race.

Squeeze Marketing will serve as an associate partner for the VetTix | Camping World 200.

“The opportunity to bring out the Squeeze Team to experience the culture of the AM Racing Team will be one that we will remember for a long time.”

“It’s always exciting to bring a new partner to NASCAR,” offered Self. “Squeeze Marketing is working with one of our other partners and wanted the experience the racing industry firsthand. We look forward to hosting some of their executives at the track and expanding our relationship with them in the future.”
