(Mooresville, NC, August 10, 2015–) Austin Wayne Self, driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford, finished fifth in the Federated Auto Parts 200 at the Berlin Raceway for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) Saturday evening.
The finish marked Self’s sixth top-five of the 2015 season and his third top-five finish in three starts at the 4/10 mile track located in Marne, Michigan.
We worked at making the car better all day,” Self stated after the race. “I wish the finish was more than a one lap shootout at the end. I believe we could have ended up with a top-three finish.”
“This MMM crew worked all day to make the car better and we made it better during the race, unfortunately we just ran out of laps.”
“I can’t thank everyone enough at AM Technical Solutions, Pirate Energy and MMM for staying behind us all year. I am ready for some dirt racing in two weeks.”
Earlier Saturday in Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell Self timed in eighth quickest turning a lap of 16.997 or 92.769 MPH.
When the green flag waved on the 15th race of the 2015 season Self wasted no time working his way around four cars on the first lap to move into fourth.
During the evenings longest green flag run (84) laps Self fell back to the seventh position and off the lead lap. When the caution waved for the third time at lap 145 it allowed Self to receive the “free pass” and get back on the lead lap.
Self would continue to move back to the front during the final 50 laps and would cross the finish line in the fifth position.
With his sixth top-five of 2015 Self has claimed sole possession of 2nd in ARCA championship points. He now trails point leader Grant Enfinger by 225 points with five races remaining in the 2015 schedule.
