Austin Wayne Self resumes his battle for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year at a track known for showing no mercy as he enters the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.

Self, driver of the No. 22 AM Technical Solutions/Black’s Barbecue Toyota Tundra, and his fellow NCWTS competitors return to racing at the historic half-mile, paper clip-shaped track after a four-week early-season break in the schedule. Self spent much of his NCWTS debut at Daytona running inside the top-10 before being swept up in a big wreck and finishing 19th, and battled to a 16th place finish at Atlanta.

Saturday will mark Self’s first start at Martinsville, where the tight confines and battle for all-important track position inevitably cause driver tempers to flare. Self knows patience will play a key role in his performance on Saturday.

“Since Atlanta, Pit Crew and I have been practicing Pit Stops together. We have reduced our Stop times by 4-6 seconds. We believe this will have a significant impact on our overall performance at Martinsville.” Said Self.

The opportunity to race at Martinsville, a tradition-soaked short track that exemplifies the roots of NASCAR, is one Self doesn’t take lightly as he is no stranger to short tracks. “I am all about short tracks and I am very excited for my first Martinsville race. It is a great track with even greater history. I am looking forward to adding to that history on Saturday”

Special guests in attendance include Self’s primary sponsor AM Technical Solutions as well as members of the Kymanox team.

“After about a month off from the Truck Series, we know that Austin and his team are anxious to get back on the track and compete. The first two races were tough, with a highly competitive field in Daytona and the team being swept up in a big wreck in Daytona. Our company is behind Austin and the entire 22 team 100% as they head into the Martinsville race. We know that is a very challenging half-mile speedway with a history of tight races, and we are proud to have Austin representing AMTS,” says Dan Codi, CEO of AM Technical Solutions.

Televised coverage of the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville on Saturday begins at 2pm EST on Fox Sports 1. Live coverage of the race may also be heard on MRN Radio. Follow Austin on his social media channels. Facebook: Austin Wayne Self Twitter: @AustinWSelf Instagram: AustinWayneSelf
