Austin Wayne Self, AM Racing ready to double down in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev: With just five NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) races remaining in the 2019 season, every race is important for AM Racing and driver Austin Wayne Self.

As the series returns following a quick two-week break, Self and his Eddie Troconis led team head to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway looking to roll the dice and deliver another top-five finish in Friday night’s World of Westgate 200.

Since delivering a sixth-place finish at Kentucky Speedway in July, AM Racing hasn’t finished outside the top-15. With one top-five, two top 10s and six top-15 finishes in-between, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team certainly has hit its stride during the summer stretch and shows no signs of slowing down.

“I always enjoy going to Las Vegas,” said Self. “It’s a track that embraces NASCAR racing and the fans are incredible. The race track is also a lot of fun. It’s a fast race track where drafting is critical, and handling is crucial.

“AM Racing has enjoyed a lot of success on the bigger tracks this summer and I’m eager to see if we can keep that momentum going on Friday night. “It’s going to be hot, but we expect that during fall in Las Vegas. If we can keep up with the track conditions going from day to night, we should have an opportunity to earn our fourth top-10 of the year.”

Self will make his sixth career start at the 1.5-mile speedway. After finishing ninth in the fall race last year, the Austin, Texas native returned to Sin City in March and delivered a strong top-15 finish.

With so much learned in the past year, Self isn’t counting out an opportunity to put his AM Racing team in Victory Lane if the circumstances work out.

“Winning is not out of our hands at AM Racing,” explained Self. “We have showcased that we have the speed in our trucks – we just need the race to play into our hands as far as strategy goes and we should have the chance to capitalize on it.

“We’ve seen where fuel mileage can be a late race factor and hopefully we’re in a position to take advantage of that. With Las Vegas being a cutoff race for the Playoffs, I think you’re going to see a chaotic race but for those of us not in the Playoffs, it’s a good chance for us to showcase our stuff.

“Should be a fun race for the fans.”

AM Racing team manager Kevin Cywinski says he is exceptionally proud of the results the team has shown lately.

“Austin, Eddie and the team have been doing a fantastic job,” offered Cywinski. “We have recovered from a couple of mishaps late in the spring and early in the summer and really have been focused on going out there and not leaving anything on the table.

“I think everyone has executed well and that has given the whole team a good morale not only at the track but at the race shop. Everyone is really upbeat about this last stretch of races and the opportunity to not only run well but perhaps win a race by the end of the season at Homestead.”

For the series’ return trip to the West Coast, alongside GO TEXAN, AM Technical Solutions will serve as a major associate partner for Friday night’s race.
