Margins PAC fuels AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self ‘s return to Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Tex: Just three races to go.

The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series is approaching the checkered flag in the 2020 season, but for Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team, there is still plenty of work to be done.

With Texas Motor Speedway, Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and the season-finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway all on the horizon, Self is focused on ending the year on a high note and putting his family-owned team in a good spot ahead of 2021.

Self carries his Statesville, N.C.-based team back to his home state of Texas after a solid top-20 last weekend at Kansas Speedway. While the team’s finish was hindered late in the race, the team is upbeat about their chances of earning a top-10 finish in Sunday’s SpeedyCash.com 400.

“It’s always important for us to go back to Texas and run well,” said Self. “This is a hometown race for me, and I always put a lot of pressure to run well. Luckily, I’ve had some success at Texas and hope we can continue that on Sunday.”

Self will make his ninth Truck Series start at the 1.5-mile speedway and has delivered seven top-20 finishes in the last eight races and has not finished worse than 22nd.

Noted as one of the better intermediate tracks for Self, he hopes to better his 14th place performance at the 1.5-mile intermediate track from this summer.

“Texas has been a solid racetrack for us,” added Self. “For whatever reason, we’ve always been able to produce solid finishes – but we are hunting a top-10 run on Sunday afternoon. That would be awesome for us.”

Sunday’s race will also mark the debut of a new sponsor for the AM Racing team.

Margins PAC will serve as the primary sponsor for Self and the AM Racing team in the 21st race of the season.

Margins PAC is formed as an independent general-purpose political action committee (PAC). Margins PAC’s primary purpose is to address various issues of public policy.

Margins PAC’s mission is to aggregate and give voice to those middle-ground voters via grassroots organization.

In coordination with Margins PAC, Self’s No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado will run a Trump Pence 2020 paint scheme ahead of the upcoming presidential election on Tues., Nov. 3.

“We are incredibly proud to be a part of this grand tradition and look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Austin Wayne Self and AM Racing starting this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway,” offered W T Skip Leake, Treasurer of Margins PAC.

“We are proud to become a NASCAR sponsor and wish the team the best of luck in Sunday’s race.”

Self added, “With the support of Margins PAC, I am excited to have Trump Pence 2020 on the truck this weekend. Texas is a special place for me and with the elections coming up soon, hopefully, this should motivate people to vote!

“As for our performance, I also feel that we have found something in our truck that we really like, and I think Texas would be a great place for us to shift our momentum around for the final three races of the year.”

Ryan Salmon will continue to lead the team as crew chief this weekend. He made his debut last weekend at Kansas.

In addition to primary sponsor  Margins PAC, GO TEXAN, AM Technical Solutions, Don’t Mess with Texas, AIRBOX Air Purifier, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market and Prasek’s will serve as associate sponsors in the 21st race of the year.

In 104 NGROTS races, Self, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year,  has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.8 during his five years of competition.

The Austin, Texas native is nestled 16th in the championship standings with three races remaining.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self head to Kansas Speedway prepared for the stretch drive

KANSAS CITY, Kan: The stretch drive is here.

Just four races remain on the 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series schedule and for Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team it’s about head down and fin up heading into Saturday afternoon’s Clean Harbors 200 at Kansas Speedway.

While the team had an insanely fast No. 22 AIRBOX Air Purifier | GO Texan Chevrolet Silverado in the most recent race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Self was a victim of the “Big One” which left the Statesville, N.C. team clawing for the rest of the race.

Able to leave Talladega with a top-20 in the books, a pivotal off week allowed Self and the team to regroup and prepare for the upcoming four-week stretch that will take them to the checkered flag next month.

“I’m ready to get back to Kansas Speedway this weekend,” said Self. “In July, we had a pretty decent weekend, but we definitely want to utilize the race to put some numbers up on the board to really give our team some momentum for this last stretch of races this season.”

Self, 24, will make his seventh Truck Series start at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway. In his previous six starts, he has a personal track best of 13th twice in 2018 and 2020. He also has two ARCA starts from 2014 to 2015.

The Truck Series will return to Kansas Speedway for a record third time in 2020 as the original schedule was realigned because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and while finishes of 17th and 13th during the doubleheader weekend this summer was a jolt of momentum to the team, Self says he hopes to be better in his first-ever fall trip to the 1.5-mile speedway.

“I’m so used to racing at Kansas in the late spring-early summer that I’m not sure what to really expect this weekend,” offered Self. “The track conditions though will be completely different than when we were there in July, so we have to prepare and adjust for that.

“The cooler the track is – the more handling and speed will come into play. I expect a lot of drafting this weekend but this biggest obstacle we’ll face is being able to get that run off the turns that set us up for the straightaways.”

Kansas will also mark the debut of a new crew chief for Self.

Ryan Salmon will take over as the team leader for AM Racing this weekend.

“This is our first race together in a crew chief and driver role, but I’m hoping it’s a successful debut weekend for Ryan and I on Saturday afternoon,” offered Self. “I’m hopeful that this new relationship can bring some fire to the team and we can start building for the future.”

Even out of the Playoff picture, it’s still business as usual for the AM Racing team as Self expects the upward performance trend to continue to climb aboard his No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado from now until Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway in November.

“We’re a relatively small team, but sometimes David can beat the Goliath and at times we’ve been able to show that on track with our heart and passion of racing,” added Self. “We have a lot of people, including our partners who are devoted to our race team and focused on seeing our team succeed not only in 2020 but as we start to think ahead to 2021.”

In addition to primary partner GO TEXAN, AM Technical Solutions, Don’t mess with Texas, AIRBOX Air Purifier, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market and Prasek’s will serve as associate partners in the 20th race of the year.

In 103 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.8 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self ready to roll the dice again at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self ready to roll the dice again at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

LAS VEGAS, Nev: A perfect time.

The NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series returns to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway for Friday night’s World of Westgate 200 and the 17th race of the season is exactly what Austin Wayne Self and the AM Racing needed.

Las Vegas is a place known for taking chances and with the team hungry for a top-10 finish in Truck Series competition, the opportunity to roll the dice in Sin City this weekend is definitely on the table.

Speed hasn’t been a problem for the AM Racing team over the last eight weeks, unfortunately, two races in particular at World Wide Technology Raceway and last week at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway saw missed opportunities for the operation as Self was involved in incidents, not of his making.

Bouncing back is important in sports and NASCAR is no different.

Knowing that crew chief Eddie Troconis is bringing Self a competitive truck and a chance to earn a top-10 finish – Self plans to make his move and hope it’s a blackjack type of feeling.

“I’m looking forward to Las Vegas this weekend,” said Self. “It’s one of the stops on the schedule that I know that we should be competitive and have an opportunity to put our AM Racing near the front.”

Self will make his eighth career start at the 1.5-mile speedway track. In his previous seven starts, he hasn’t finished worse than 21st which ironically came in his track debut in 2016.

To bookend the Las Vegas race this year, JB Henderson Construction is returning as the primary partner this weekend.

Established in 1959, JB Henderson performs general and mechanical contracting and is dedicated to serving their customers and employees through collaborative construction focused on safety, solutions, and skill.

“It is great to have JB Henderson Construction back on board this weekend at Las Vegas,” added Self. “They stepped up their commitment to our team this year and we’ve been able to represent them in a larger role which has been a big boost for our team.”

This weekend, Self returns to Las Vegas on the heels of back-to-back 17th place finishes last fall and this past February.

17th won’t cut it as far as Self is concerned. He hopes to rekindle the strength of their fall effort in 2018 where the team finished ninth after starting 25th.

“Las Vegas is a fun place to race,” he added. “The track has a lot of character and is very sensitive to weather. With no practice or qualifying, I know we’ll have to make some tweaks on our truck at the end of the first stage, especially as the track transition from day to night.

“We just need to make sure we can get our truck handling through the bumps and accelerating the way we want through exiting the turns and onto the straightaways.”

In addition to primary partners JB Henderson Construction and GO TEXAN, AM Technical Solutions, AIRBOX Air Purifier, Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market and Prasek’s will serve as associate partners in the 18th race of the year.

In 101 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.7 during his five years of competition.

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self hunt for top-10 finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

AM Racing, Austin Wayne Self hunt for top-10 finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn: 16 races down, seven to go.

On the heels of a strong performance last Thursday night at Richmond (Va.) Raceway in the ToyotaCare 250, Austin Wayne Self and his AM Racing team head to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for another Thursday night showdown in the UNOH 200 presented by Ohio Logistics.

And with the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series set to open their Playoffs in Thunder Valley, Self won’t have an opportunity to go for a championship title, but he does plan to make some noise of his own over the final two months of the season.

“I always look forward to Bristol, because it’s such a cool place to race,” said Self.

“Right now, I think our AM Racing team has some good momentum and even if we don’t have the all the finishes to show for it lately, we’ve had some really fast No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverados and I hope we can continue to showcase that at Bristol.”

Self, 24, has four previous Truck Series starts at Bristol with back-to-back top-15 finishes in 2018 and 2019 respectively and is determined to up the ante in the UNOH 200 this year.

Hunting for their first top-10 finish of the season, Self says it’s their mission to execute that goal and Bristol is certainly a place where the goal can be accomplished.

“We’re hunting a top-10 finish this week, we want to get ourselves there,” added Self. “I think we can do it.

“The last two years – we’ve had rather good results at Bristol – all things considered. You can’t hide at Bristol. But I feel like I’ve become a better driver there with experience and track time.

“Certainly not having practice or qualifying can be a little of a hindrance, but it is the same boat for everyone, so we just have to take the challenge in stride. Bristol is one of those tracks where momentum and focus are key – while just making sure you have the grip in the truck to be able to capitalize on key passing moments.

“Staying out of trouble too is huge at Bristol. As we get closer and closer to the end of the season, the intensity ramps up and the stakes are high and that sometimes leads to a lot of action and Bristol is known to be a place where the action can hot and heavy.”

In addition to primary partners GO TEXAN and AM Technical Solutions, AIRBOX Air Purifier, Don’t mess with Texas, CForce Bottling Company, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market and Prasek’s will serve as associate partners in the 17th race of the year.

In 100 NGROTS races, the 2014 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year has two top-fives (second at Daytona 2017, fifth at Michigan 2019) and seven top-10 finishes. The Texan maintains an average finish of 18.6 during his five years of competition.

The Austin, Texas native is nestled 17th in the championship standings with seven races remaining.

Austin Wayne Self Quote: “Man, we definitely had our ups and downs on Thursday night at Richmond. Our No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado was extremely fast.

“With varying pit strategy we lost a lap early in the race, but even after we got spun out by an aggressive driver in Stage 3, our truck was so good – especially on newer tires we were able to rally back and charge through the field with a positive finish.

“Hopefully, we can take this recent momentum for our AM Racing team and get a top-10 finish next Thursday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.”
