Austin Wayne Self to Race in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond on April 26

Huntersville, NC – April 16, 2012

Austin Wayne Self has been invited to drive the Sport Clips Haircuts 07 Chevrolet in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Speedway on April 26.

Self joins Sprint Cup Series drivers Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton, Michael Waltrip, Joey Logano and Aric Almirola as well as other NASCAR competitors including Sellers Racing teammate, Peyton Sellers.

“We’re really excited to be invited to compete in this event,” Self says.  “It will be a lot of fun to be in the field against top Cup and Nationwide drivers and also support people with cystic fibrosis.  Anytime we can combine racing with supporting a good cause, that’s the best situation.”

52 cars will attempt to make the 36-car field for the 75-lap event.

“Obviously it’s our goal to make the final 36-car field, and just the qualifying event is a big win for our Team and Sponsors.  This will give us some great experience going against the top talent in Late Model racing.  I just feel so appreciative of all of the opportunities God has given us already this season.” says Self.

The Short Track Showdown will run following the Blue Ox 100 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race and cap an action-packed opening day of the Spring NASCAR weekend.

The race will be broadcast Live on the Speed Channel 8:00 ET on Thursday, April 26th

Proceeds will benefit the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which supports organizations like the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, St. Jude’s Hospital and Victory Junction Camp. Tickets can be purchased at www.dennyhamlinfoundation.org.
