Austin Wayne Self Heads to Southern Illinois for His Second Dirt Race of the Season

RichCorbett_Illinois_AWS 3(Mooresville, N.C.  September 2, 2015-) Austin Wayne Self (AWS) driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) gears up for the final dirt race of the 2015 season at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will be the only national touring series racing on Labor Day Monday, September 7th. Last month Self raced inside the top-five all afternoon at the Illinois State Fairgrounds until a last lap incident resulted in the 19-year-old finishing in the 10th position.

“The dirt races are quite unpredictable,” Self stated. “You never know what kind of race were going to see. I knew Springfield was going to get wild with a last lap restart and unfortunately we got caught up in an incident in the final corner.”

Rich Corbett Photography“You always see a lot of green flag racing on the dirt tracks so it’s important to have a great long run car and not abuse your equipment early.”

“We’ve had great runs over the last five races, unfortunately we have had rotten luck. I really want to get AM Technical Solutions, Pirate Energy and all of the guys at MMM another win before the season is over.”

This Monday’s race marks the 10th of 11 races for the Calypso Lemonade Short Track Challenge for the 2015 season. AWS sits second in points, trailing leader Kyle Weatherman by 50 markers. Self’s worst finish on the short tracks in 2015 is a 10th place finish.

With four races remaining the championship battle is heating up. 2014 Scott Rookie of The Year AWS sits third in points 180 behind leader Grant Enfinger. Self gained 45 points with his tenth place finish at Springfield last month.

Illinois_AWSRacing 3Chassis: Self will race chassis No. 593 out of the MMM stable. AWS last raced 593 at the Pocono Raceway last month to a seventh place finish. Chassis 593 has six prior starts with one win, four top-5 finishes and five top-10’s.

AWS on Dirt: AWS has three prior starts on dirt in the ARCA Racing Series all equaling top-10 finishes.

The ARCA Racing Series gears up for the final dirt race of the 2015 season at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 on Monday, September 7th. The race will be live on the ARCA Radio Network beginning at 2:30 p.m. EST.
