Austin Wayne Self Earns 10th Top-10 Finish of 2015, Moves Into Second Place in Championship Points Race

Pocono (Mooresville, NC, August 3, 2015–) Austin Wayne Self (AWS), driver of the AM Technical Solutions No. 98 for Mason Mitchell Motorsports earned his 10th top-10 of the 2015 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season at the Pocono Raceway, Saturday afternoon. Self finished a career best seventh in four starts at the Pocono Raceway.

“Seventh isn’t the finish we wanted to leave Pocono with,” Self said after the 50 lap event. “We had a great strategy pitting under the first caution. Unfortunately the caution came out with 20 laps remaining and that changed our hand.”

“We were able to avoid the big accident on lap one and come away with a top-10 finish.”

“Big picture wise it was a great day, we moved into second in points. I’m looking forward to heading back to another short track next weekend at Berlin.”

Friday afternoon in Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell Self timed in ninth quickest for the 50 lap event on Saturday.

When the green flag waved at Pocono mayhem quickly followed on the first lap. Several of the front running cars were involved in an accident in turn two. Self was able to maneuver the No. 98 through the carnage unscathed.

Pocono_1Crew chief Danny Johnson brought Self down pit-road under the caution for fuel only. Self would restart in the 18th position. Two laps after the lap nine restart Self worked his way back into the top-10 in the eighth position.

Self continued to work his way through the field and moved back into the top-five at lap 18. Self would race his way into the third position until the second and final caution of the afternoon waved at lap 27 for debris.

Self would bring his No. 98 car down pit-road one final time for four Hoosier tires and fuel. Self would pass two cars during the final three laps to secure a seventh place finish and his 10th top-10 finish of the 2015 ARCA season.

With the finish Self moved into a tie for second place in ARCA championship points with Tommy Hessert. Self now trails point leader Grant Enfinger by 185 points with six races remaining in the 2015 schedule.

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series is the Federated Auto Parts 200 at the Berlin Raceway Saturday, August 8th beginning at 8:50 p.m. ET. The ARCA Radio Network will have a live audio call of the race at arcaracing.com.
